Dahlia Shami is one of the most talented photographers in Abu Dhabi! We’re lucky to have her as a dear friend and supporter since day one. Apart from her passion for photography, Dahlia also loves to help women thrive in their careers.

One afternoon we visited her at home, and learned some interesting insights into her life. Here’s what she shared…

1. How did your career in photography begin?

It started when my daughter Elena was born. I wanted to capture beautiful photos of her childhood. After taking several courses and working hard to achieve the confidence I want in what I do, I made it my profession.

2. What are three main challenges you face as a photographer?

One is dealing with my clients’ anxiety to see the photos- this makes me excited as well. Another challenge is having to stay updated with new ideas and techniques, as photography is an ever growing field. And last but not least, having no weekends because that’s when all the events happen.

3. Do you have any advice for people who want to begin their career in photography?

My advice is always be a leader and not a follower. Focus on your career and success without envying others. I believe that real queens fix each others’ crowns, and I am always glad to help anyone starting up.

4. In three words, what does motherhood mean to you?

It is hard to summarize what motherhood means to me in three words. It is like living with your heart outside your body. If I had to pick only three, they would be: blessing, fulfilment, and love.

5. What is the best part of your job?

The best part is meeting lots of new people who become friends most of the time. I am very  grateful that I get to be part of people’s lives by giving them beautiful memories to look back at.

6. Do you have any other hobbies or talents?

I’d have to say my second talent is my love and obsession with makeup! I am hoping to introduce some of my work to my page as well.
